Fuzzy Labs are a Manchester-based startup that helps teams turn ambitious AI ideas into systems that run in the real world. We specialise in productionising machine learning through Open Source MLOps, with a strong focus on practical engineering over hype.
We work across three connected areas of delivery: research engineering, prototyping, and production. Not every customer needs all three on day one, but everything we do is designed to support progress towards reliable, real-world systems.
Over the past 12 months, we’ve doubled both our team size and revenue. We’re continuing to grow and are now building out our commercial function to support that momentum.
This is a new role and will be central to establishing and scaling our private sector business.
What we’re looking for
Our commercial function, led by our CCO, is structured around two sectors: Public (Policing and Central Government) and Private.
We’ve recently hired a Public Sector Lead and are now looking for an experienced, hands-on Private Sector Lead to build and grow our private sector book of business.
Reporting to the CCO, you will own private sector sales end to end. That includes deciding where we focus, generating demand, progressing opportunities, closing deals, and growing long-term customer relationships.
This is a senior individual contributor role. You will be accountable for results and expected to operate independently, while working closely with delivery, marketing and community teams.
You’ll need a strong understanding of how private sector organisations explore, buy and productionise AI. That includes recognising when customers are experimenting, when they’re ready to prototype, and when there is a clear path to production and longer-term engagement.
You will work closely with our Community and Marketing Managers to convert events, content and open-source engagement into real commercial opportunities. This role is accountable for turning interest into pipeline, and pipeline into revenue.

A typical day
You’ll work closely with the CCO, Community and Marketing Managers, and delivery teams to grow our private sector footprint. Your focus is on generating opportunities, closing deals, and setting up long-term customer relationships. You will:
- Own private sector revenue targets
- Identify and qualify new customers through outbound activity and community-led inbound
- Work with the Community Manager to convert engagement into pipeline
- Identify real customer problems, sector themes and hot topics, then work with the Marketing Manager to turn them into content that supports pipeline
- Build and maintain strong relationships with founders, executives and technical leaders
- Develop and manage a clear, forecastable sales pipeline
- Lead commercial conversations, proposals and deal negotiation
- Work with engineers to scope work that is valuable, deliverable and extensible
- Feed market insight back into company strategy and positioning
Represent Fuzzy Labs at events and in the wider AI and MLOps ecosystem
This is a hands-on commercial role. You are expected to generate demand, close deals, and grow accounts over time.
What you’ll bring

- Willingness to travel to customers as needed
- Proven experience selling into private sector organisations, ideally professional or technical services
- Experience owning a sales pipeline from lead generation through to close
- Comfortable working independently and building a book of business from scratch
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience shaping proposals, statements of work or similar
- Interest or working knowledge of AI, data science or MLOps, with a willingness to learn
- Experience working closely with marketing or community functions
- Experience in a startup or scale-up environment is a plus

Location
We run an organised hybrid scheme. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday are office days, used for collaboration, planning and team activities.
Ideally, the successful candidate will be based at our Manchester offices.
