Welcome to fuzzy labs

Here at Fuzzy Labs, we’re a growing team of open source MLOps enthusiasts. We passionately believe that open source solutions are preferable to proprietary ‘off the shelf’ products, and we’re on the look-out for talented team members who feel the same way.

Demand for open source MLOps is growing at an exponential rate - our clients rightly see the benefits of a more ‘bespoke’ solution vs the ‘lock-in’ associated with proprietary products.

We intend to remain at the forefront of developments in our sector, in order to capitalise on this demand, and to create innovative and world leading solutions for our clients. It’s an incredibly exciting time to be part of both our industry, and this company.

What it’s like to work here.

We’re a start-up, full of optimism and excitement, given the things we’re striving to achieve. Our business is built on the idea of building bespoke solutions, not just rolling out something that’s been done before. As a result, it’s a dynamic and stimulating place to work. We’re forever experimenting, tackling problems and seeking new solutions. We encourage all of our team to think for themselves, question the status quo, and for them to feel comfortable taking the less trodden path.

We’re obsessed with creating an environment that enables our team to thrive. We want fuzzy labs to be an exciting and fun place to be, but that’s built on helping our team to create meaningful and personally satisfying work.

As a small company, we win by being more committed and more collaborative than some of our bigger and more corporate competitors. Our size enables us to be more flexible and creative in our approach. Our clients see us as an extension of their team, so it’s important to us that each team member is both talented and easy to work with. Whether we’re working with colleagues or clients, we help each other, we support each other, and we succeed together.

We are committed to our ‘work from anywhere’ policy. You know where you need to be in order to create your best work, and we’ll trust you to deliver wherever that may be. Asynchronous communication is the default, so we function as a team under the assumptions that we’re all in different places, and have different preferences in terms of how and when we communicate.

Of course, we’re a team, and so we love to see each other in person wherever possible. It’s important for everyone’s personal and professional development. But we strive to find the right balance, so time together becomes something we all look forward to, and doesn’t feel like a chore.

Our founders

Some companies are founded by corporate suits who are only in this for the money, and to turn a profit. But they wouldn’t know Python if it bit them on the arse. They treat employees as generic assets, scaling up and down on a project by project basis. Everything feels transient, people are disposable.

We know what you need, because we are you. We’re tech people, who’ve built a business doing what we love. Our founders each have 20 years experience working across DevOps, SRE and building complex data-driven applications. We remain hands on, as programming is our passion, and we know the ‘business’ rewards will follow if we just focus on doing what we do best.

We hire team members who excite us with their talent, but also their potential. We’re committed to helping all members of the fuzzy labs team grow their skill set and knowledge, and we can promise this as you’ll be working side by side with some of the most talented programmers in the industry. There’s no huge hierarchy or set of reporting lines to get in the way. If you need help, you can just ask.

Our core values and principles

Team mentality

We’re a small team, and we succeed and fail together. When somebody’s struggling, we help them out. When we do well, that success is shared, and everyone’s contribution is acknowledged and celebrated.

Developing ourselves and each other

We take as much satisfaction in seeing our team develop and grow, as we do our company. If anyone feels like they are treading water, we’ve failed. We want all members of the team to feel like they are constantly learning, improving and developing, and we put measures in place to ensure this happens. We all have the opportunity to work on emerging technology, in a new and progressive field, and this is the perfect breeding ground for ambitious individuals.

Be yourself

Everyone’s different, and we’re all good at different things. If we had a room full of people all good at the same thing, it would be pointless (and a pretty boring room). We hire people who have a particular talent for something, and will never penalise them for not being equally talented at something else. Together we have a diverse set of talented people, each free to focus on what they do best.

Quality at all costs

Our reputation is built on the standard of work that we do, so we must hold ourselves to the highest possible standards. This may be in the work that we do, the solutions we build, but also in the experience we offer our clients. Everything we do must be the best that it can be.

Experimental attitude

We work with emerging technologies, often developing never been-seen-before solutions. It’s inevitable that some things won’t work, but that’s ok. It’s ok to fail. If we’re never failing, we can’t be pushing hard enough to develop new and exciting solutions for our clients. All of our team are encouraged to push the boundaries of what they feel comfortable with.

Work/home balance

We all work from anywhere, and so it’s easy for work to take over when there’s no commute to officially signal the end of the day. We have a strict ‘switch off’ policy, ensuring everyone has the time they need to relax, unwind, and have fun. We’ll only do our best work if we make time for ourselves.

Have some fun

Work is important, and sometimes it’s hard. But it doesn’t have to be dull. In fact it can’t be. We spend such a large percentage of our time at work, it has to be fun to be sustainable. We’re not corporate bankers in suits, we’re a team of creative innovators. So it’s ok to do what we do with a smile on our face, and we try to build teams who develop into friends, not just colleagues.

Show me the money (and other benefits).

We believe in being open and upfront in terms of what our team members receive, so our benefit package is anything but fuzzy. We offer a generous and well-rounded package to our employees, to reward your hard work, and hopefully keep you happy and motivated.
