Public Sector Lead: Secure Government

About us

Fuzzy Labs are a Manchester-based startup that helps our clients productionise machine learning through Open Source MLOps. We exist to help harness and channel the power of AI more quickly, to make positive change and use AI for good.

We are growing our team to lead and expand our engagement with secure government organisations. Over the past 12 months, we have doubled both our business size and revenue, and our growth ambitions for this year are just as bold. This role will be instrumental in building our presence in the secure government sector, helping organisations adopt AI to enhance operational effectiveness and achieve their mission, while also guiding how we shape our pipeline and strategy for long-term sustainable growth.

What we’re looking for

We’ve seen considerable growth over the past few years and this will continue as we build on our reputation as Open Source MLOps experts. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of working in secure government, including its challenges, priorities and culture, and use that expertise to help shape how AI can make a meaningful impact.

You’ll also be responsible for developing and executing a clear strategy to expand our presence within the secure government sector; using your insights and experience to identify opportunities, craft targeted initiatives, and guide how we approach and support potential customers in a thoughtful, impactful way.

This is not a pure commercial role. It is about combining subject matter expertise with commercial awareness: helping us engage with the right stakeholders, navigate the landscape effectively, and build trusted partnerships that last.

You’ll enjoy being part of a culture that values:

  • Loving what we do: we are a team passionate about how tech can make lives better; it is a hobby as well as a job
  • Just trying it: we love to develop new skills, solve new problems, and thrive on a challenge; failure and experimentation are where innovation happens
  • Being greater than the sum of parts: we are a team and a community, that includes our customers, partners and the wider open source community
  • Positive impact: AI is going to change the world. We are choosing to use it for good and leave a positive legacy

A typical day

Working closely with our CCO, CTO and technical delivery teams, you will take responsibility for building our relationships across the secure government sector. You will bring knowledge of the sector to help align our technical capabilities with real mission needs, ensuring we deliver maximum value while creating long-term partnerships that drive both operational success and business growth.

Your day-to-day activities will include:

  • Acting as a subject matter expert on the secure government sector, helping shape how we position AI for mission needs
  • Managing and nurturing relationships with stakeholders across secure government organisations
  • Building and maintaining a clear pipeline of opportunities aligned to sector priorities
  • Helping to shape bids, proposals and tenders by providing sector insight
  • Supporting our presence on relevant procurement frameworks and identifying new opportunities
  • Working closely with technical teams to ensure delivery meets sector expectations
  • Building trusted relationships with decision-makers, procurement teams and technical stakeholders
  • Providing thought leadership and market intelligence to guide our strategy in secure government
  • Representing Fuzzy Labs at sector events, conferences and networks
  • Ensuring all engagements comply with secure government governance and regulatory requirements

This role is not about chasing quick wins. It is about being a trusted voice in the sector, helping organisations see how AI can support their mission, and shaping long-term, sustainable partnerships.

Skills and Experience

Our team is made up of a mix of backgrounds, and we value smart, curious people who understand the unique challenges and opportunities within secure government. If you are motivated by helping these organisations harness AI responsibly and effectively, you will fit right in.

  • Able to commute to our central Manchester office 3 days per week
  • Deep understanding of the secure government sector, its priorities and ways of working
  • Proven experience building relationships within secure government (client side, consultancy, or supplier side)
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes, frameworks and governance in secure government
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders
  • Experience supporting bids, proposals and tenders, ideally with public sector or secure government clients
  • Understanding of compliance, security clearance requirements and regulatory frameworks within secure government
  • Ability to work collaboratively with technical teams to ensure successful project delivery
  • Strong networking and relationship-building skills within the sector
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to shape opportunities without being a pure sales role
  • Basic understanding of machine learning, data science or MLOps concepts (willingness to learn is essential)
  • Self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams
  • Experience in a startup or scale-up environment is preferred but not essential
  • A UK citizen (see below)

Note: Due to the nature of our work, applicants will need to hold the appropriate security clearances
